Eliane Vogel Polsky (Ghent, July 5 1926 – Brussels, November 13 2015) was a professor and a lawyer. She was a courageous supporter of article 119 (concerning equal pay for men and women) of the Treaty of Rome. Eliane submitted the famous ‘Affaire Defrenne’ to the Court of Justice of the European Communities. In 1976, the Court recognised officially the direct applicability of article 119 on equal pay.
