Sophie Scholl

"Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, the protection of individual citizens from the arbitrary will of criminal regimes of violence-these will be the bases of the New Europe."

Sophie Scholl (Forchtenberg, May 9 1921 - Munich, February 22 1943) was killed, at the age of 21, together with her brother Hans and Alexandre Schmorell.  She was punished for disseminating leaflets of the group ‘Die Weisse Rose’ that exalted peace, freedom and solidarity in Europe. Sophie Scholl was born on the 9th of May, chosen later as Europe day, and her lesson is still an example for young Europeans.
